Civic Space
Monitoring civic space and freedom of expression
What the Centre will track across media freedom, peaceful assembly, association and digital expression.
Open civic space enables people to speak, organise, report and participate in public life. The Centre’s coverage will examine developments affecting journalists, civil-society organisations, researchers, human-rights defenders and ordinary citizens.
We will document laws, administrative measures, court proceedings and reported incidents only with sufficient context. Legal rules will be considered alongside their implementation and practical effects.
Coverage will avoid treating every restriction as equivalent. We will identify the right engaged, the stated legal basis, the evidence available and the questions that remain.
Analysis and commentary will be visibly separated from verified news reporting so readers can assess each form of publication on its own terms.
