Legal Standards

The rights framework behind our reporting

How constitutional guarantees and regional and international standards inform accessible public-interest coverage.

The Centre explains rights through the legal standards relevant to Ethiopia, including constitutional protections and applicable regional and international instruments. The purpose is not to replace legal advice, but to help readers understand the framework against which public power and protection obligations can be assessed.

Legal analysis identifies the source and status of a rule, the conduct at issue and any limitations or procedural safeguards that may apply. It distinguishes binding obligations from guidance and advocacy positions.

Where interpretation is contested, we describe the competing positions rather than presenting one view as settled law.

Our legal explainers will be updated when authoritative decisions, legislation or verified institutional developments change the analysis.
