Why Ethiopia Rights Evidence Centre exists
An independent publication built to document responsibly, explain clearly and keep human dignity at the centre of public-interest reporting.
Ethiopia Rights Evidence Centre was created to strengthen the public record on rights, accountability and civic space in Ethiopia. We publish material that can be traced to sources, assessed against clear standards and corrected when better evidence emerges.
Our work begins with a simple discipline: a serious allegation is not yet a verified fact. We seek corroboration, establish what is known and unknown, invite relevant responses and explain the evidential basis for what we publish.
The Centre is independent and non-partisan. Our concern is the protection of people and the integrity of the record, regardless of the identity of an alleged victim, institution or responsible actor.
This first edition introduces the publication and its standards. Incident reporting will be added only after the evidence has passed our review process.
